His recent solo performance work brings this research together with the topic of perception and awareness of different spaces. He is fascinated by making sounds visual and motions audible.&#38;nbsp;
This was supported by the researchgrand “Distanzsolo”.

LAVA QuartetThe Lava Quartet is an international quartet featuring Berlin-based singer Almut Kühne and drummer Wieland Möller, along with Portuguese bassist Gonçalo Almeida, established in the Netherlands, and Catalan pianist Jordina Millà, who lives in Salzburg. On their performances each member brings their individual creativity and musicality to the set, resulting in a synergistic collaboration where freedom allows the musicians to push the boundaries of traditional musical structures by incorporating extended techniques into free improvisation, expanding their range of expression, and creating unique and unconventional sounds. It is a testament to the power of spontaneous musical expression and creates an exciting and unpredictable musical journey for both the performers and the audience.

Lava Quartet in Ethereal Chant!

Of the over seventy concerts of the Spontaneous Live Series, held in Poznań for over six years, many have become indelibly etched in the memories of listeners and organizers alike. If we were to single out the most outstanding performances, the performance by a certain quartet, which graced the stages of Dragon Social Club in mid-June 2023, would certainly be among them.

Double bass, piano, drums, and a unique voice. The concert was intimate on the one hand, yet incredibly expressive on the other. The acoustics resonated with a profound mystery, a narrative mystery, and a multitude of small, extraordinary phonic events.

Back then, this quartet didn't yet have a proper name. Today, it does – we know it's called the Lava Quartet, and its debut album is being provided by the national "Listen!" Foundation. Furthermore, the first recording on the disc is an excerpt from a concert in Poznań two years earlier. The rest of the album was recorded two days later, during the German leg of the tour.
The album, titled "Ethereal Chant," fully confirms our memories of the concert mentioned at the beginning. And it's already earning its place among the best albums of 2025. But that's not the end of the great news – the Lava Quartet will be among the guests at the upcoming Spontaneous Music Festival, which will traditionally take place in Poznań on the first weekend of October.

So welcome, Almut Kühne, Jordina Millà, Gonçalo Almeida &#38;amp; Wieland Möller!

The album's opening lasts only a few minutes, but it effectively sets us on edge. From whispers to noise, a twitchy, grimy chamber full of emotion, as dark as it is aggressive. The voice seems to come from a deep basement, as do the phrases inside the piano. The plucked strings of the double bass initially build tension, but then, under the jurisdiction of the bow, flow in a wide stream of dark post-baroque. The next exposition seems to have come from the pen of Lovecraft. Straight from a deep, dark crypt, a drone of unknown origins flows towards us – perhaps embedded within it are the trembling strings of foam, the flame of a tarry bow, the thickening vocals, and the resonating cymbals. The whole thing resembles nothing that could have been produced by the instruments harnessed to perform this sonic figure. From this mysterious crucible, the sound of a low bow, murmurs from the very bottom of the piano's soundboard, a demonic voice, and the rustle of percussion finally emerge. The narrative grows expressive thanks to the lively percussion. Everything trembles, gnashes, and seems to be rushing at breakneck speed. The salvation comes from a cooled, pianistic punch line.

The beginning of the third story is built collectively, with separate phrases from four sound centers. The bow sounds as if made of lead, the piano both from the keyboard and directly from the strings, rhythmic snare drum strikes, like a convict being flogged, and finally, a voice that theatrically recites, even sings, a song without lyrics. Emotions rise like wildfire until a counter-sing from the piano keyboard effectively calms the frayed nerves. Meanwhile, the bow shifts to a post-baroque position, and the percussion to a zone of noise. The voice returns with scat, broken melodies, and dramatic suspense. Just a few more preparations from the double bass and drums, and the quartet can confidently embark on a definitively chochoł dance, smeared with the glow of the black part of the piano keyboard. The simple rhythm here ignites additional emotions, including the bass, which transforms into a state of dynamic drive. The piece concludes with a cooled double bass solo.

The finale of the performance is initiated by percussion. Gongs, inside piano, cymbals, and a dark bow, combined with an equally dark vocalization, create a multi-minute suspense during the development. The action begins immediately when the singing seems to combine the activities of the bow and voice. The swinging post-baroque gains its color with the striking of the strings and the angular elements of the drum kit. At the same time, the vocalist rises on tiptoe and begins humming a farewell melody, here for particularly naughty boys and girls. For a moment, one might get the impression that the quartet is searching for a post-jazz entourage. However, nerves remain with everyone until the very end. The double bass finds a muddy bottom and propels the quartet to its final peak. The music dies in a whisper.

Lava Quartet feat. Almut Kühne, Jordina Millà, Gonçalo Almeida, Wieland Möller Ethereal Chant (Listen! Foundation, CD 2025). Almut Kühne – vocals, Jordina Millà – piano, Gonçalo Almeida – double bass and Wieland Möller – drums, percussion, gongs. Recorded at Dragon Social Club, Poznań (track 1) and Klanghaus, Klein Jasedow, Germany (tracks 2-4), June 2023. Four improvisations, 45 minutes.

Through residencies in the “Klanghaus” Klein Jasedow founded by the european academy of healing arts, i got revealed to the amazing and transformative power and energy of gongs. It made me wanna learn more about these instruments which from my perspective are a channel of energies beyond the humanworld, bringing deep wisdom into our lifes. Through my time in Klein Jasedow, I met Johannes Heimrath, artist and cofounding gongmaker of Sonagongs and president of the european academy of healing arts. He is working with gongs since many decades in the field of therapeutic use, in concerts and manufaturing.

The gongs manufatured by him became a regular part of my set up next to drums and other percussion instruments. For more examples of my soloworks have a look on my section “Solo”.
This year i am hosting for the first time in october the Gongweekend at the European Academy of the Healing Arts in Klein Jasedow.&#38;nbsp;I feel very honored and excited about it. It will take place on octobre 11/12 2025.

I am also hosting a monthly Gongevening under the title: Über Klänge und das (Zu) Hören zur eigenen inneren Mitte finden und sich zentriert von innen heraus der Welt öffnen
at the Kultur und Kinderkirche Eichstädt, Oberkrämer.

<description>My solo performance plays with drums, electronics, gong, and movement inspired by rhythmic studies by Jaques Dalcroze. With 30 years of focusing on the drums, this mix started with the support of GVL and premiered as the presentation of my Masterstudies at the Carl Maria von Weber Musicuniversity in Dresden entitled “The Red Garuda - Transformation of Movement and Sound in Space” and with several studies at the Klanghaus of the European Academy of the Healing Arts.

Music, movement, choreography, composition by Wieland Möller
with support by: Prof. Christine Straumer, Johannes Boenig, Hilde Kappes, Ingo Reulecke, Min Yoon, Günter Baby Sommer, and GVL

This work is inspired by the eastern mythological creature Red Garuda and a result of my personal reflections of the change of space throughout the pandemic times.
Based on the original connection of Movement and Sound in rituals, my intention with this work is to share a transformative ritual of different spaces within and around through the resonances of the elements sound &#38;amp; movement.

Min Yoon · dancing with violence (Preview / a participatory audio dance performance)... to evolve the perpetrator and victim archetypes ... to express and transform impulses in all of us… dancing with the different tendencies may they be called anger, fear, angst, justice, collisions, some existential joke or symphony…we hope that this piece will contribute toward more spaces for more people to experience the multitude of perspectives toward healing and reconciliation or possibly a deeper understanding beyond words without resolve. &#38;amp; In a moment of coming out of isolation and possibly more attuned to our inner feelings, we hope that audio can bring together the inner, outer, and collective experiences in moving together…in moments of continuing to search for answers to the atrocities happening all around us…. . .This project started with the question of sharing somatic memories and dance scores beyond the body of one dancer in performance, to the audience through experiencing the memories through movement. With one Anonymous dancer, I researched where and how memories and stories of violence is stored in the body. Then with another writer and musician, we translated this dance research into an auditory and participatory dance piece that is offered online currently. The experience was also shared live to dancers and unprofessional movers in the audience. . . .Thank you to the Anonymous One who was open to sharing their story for the possible openings in others. They were identified in an open call workshop exploring the victim and perpetrator archetypes. Thanks to Brukmuk and Michiel Renger for generously allowing us to use their driving Technobeats in the soundscape. We would also like to thank the European Academy of the Healing Arts, Klein Jasedow for sound inspirations, as well as Hošek Contemporary Gallery, Theaterhaus Mitte, and Laborgras Studios for support throughout the research and premiere. The piece also has many inspirations and connections to Anna and Daria Halprin’s Life/Art Process, Process Work, butoh dance, and Laurie Anderson.. . .Richard Pettifer with Berlin’s Tanzschreiber also joined us and provoked more questions in his review:https://tanzschreiber.de/en/in-the-dark-dark-ship/

PERFORMANCE OF IMPROVISATIONS IN MOVEMENT &#38;amp; SOUND
Performed at Hellerau July 2020Rosalind and Wieland have been working together since 2010 and meet regularly for joint improvisational performances in Berlin spaces such as the Mime Centrum, Urbanraum and in the venues of MusikTanzNull30. This is the first time the duo has performed together since Rosalind’s move to Saxony in 2016. Parkour offers them the opportunity to share their practice in movement and sound with an audience and to bring together the overlapping approaches in their approach to improvisation. These include the perception and inclusion of non-human material like trees and cymbals.

Performance in Group Global 3000, Berlin, Exhibition "Meat", 10.4.15
Under the title „Humanimalintuition“, Wieland Möller and Konrad Szymanski are investigating in the relationship of humans and animals. They believe that humans and animals are dependent from each other in equal ways and do not show that much differences that humans would deserve the right to place themselves above animals. In their performance they are researching the idea
of energetic exchange between humans and animals. For them Intuition is the common ground and key for understanding.
„IMPROPERFORM“ A project by Konrad Szymanski dance/movement/sound) and Wieland Moeller (music/movement/sound) Based on the questions of the various relationships of dance and music and what is improvisation and instant composition, Konrad and Wieland are trying to research their conscious for the present moment, the relationship of each
other and the arts as well as for the space.
This research is reflected in their performances, which are honest towards each other and towards the present moment and the space. Therefore the duo is inviting themselves as well as the audience to a journey of unknown destination.
